Cardinal Path
Alexandria, VA
Project Details:
Rust Orling Architecture is currently working with Housing Alexandria (formerly AHDC) and Sheltered Homes of Alexandria to develop much-needed affordable housing in Alexandria’s West End (Seminary Rd). The project includes 31 attractive townhomes available to first-time homebuyers at or below 80% area median income. The townhouses range from 2- to 3-bedrooms and each have a private garage. The project uses a shared-equity model to ensure long-term affordability, with buyers agreeing to share in the appreciated value of their home, exemplifying how non-profits and local governments can partner to meet housing and community needs, especially in high-income, high-cost areas.
There are plans for a future 12-unit multi-family building on the site which will offer further affordable homeownership opportunities as well as set aside 7 units owned by Sheltered Homes of Alexandria for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
